Amboras Atelier

One room. Every material made here.

We design and make everything in the same space. There is no factory, no drop-shipping, no outside production.

How the studio works

We make everything in one room. There is a wheel in the corner, a loom against the wall, a workbench along the back. The tools are simple. The process is slow.

Each material takes time to learn. We have been throwing stoneware for six years, weaving wool for four. The brass pen came about because we needed one that felt right in the hand and could not find it elsewhere.

Nothing here is made in batches larger than we can manage carefully. When an item is marked ready to ship, it has been made in this room, checked, and packed by hand.

Stoneware We throw on a Shimpo wheel using grey Cornish stoneware. Pots are bisque-fired at 950°C, hand-glazed, and fired again at 1280°C. The ash-white glaze comes from a recipe refined over three years. No two pieces are identical.

Linen and paper Notebooks are covered in undyed Belgian linen stitched over 3mm bookbinding board. Pages are French-sewn in sections of 16 — the binding lies flat from the first page. Paper is 100gsm uncoated cream stock, suitable for fountain pens.

Brass The pocket pen is machined from solid C360 brass. We finish to 400 grit and leave it. Brass patinas naturally with handling; that is the intention.

Walnut Trays are cut from American black walnut, kiln-dried to 8% moisture, and finished with three coats of raw linseed oil, buffed between each.

Beeswax and wool Tapers are poured from 100% British beeswax, unscented, in a heated mould. The desk mat is woven from undyed Shetland fleece on a rigid heddle loom, backed with natural linen and hemmed by hand.
